Brandon Browner played cornerback for the Stampeders. He was big. Fast. Athletic. Maybe the best cornerback I have seen in Calgary. He was always decent to interview; always friendly. Hell, one day he decided we needed to have a beer in the locker room after an interview. He seemed like one of the guys.
Then the bright lights of the NFL lured him to Seattle and New England where he won the Super Bowl with each team. You had to be happy to see a guy you worked with achieving that kind of success. Plus it looked good on the CFL to have fostered that kind of talent. Then the nasty rumors started to fly around...stuff that made you shake your head. This week Browner was sentenced to 8 years in prison for 3 felonies plus attempted murder for trying to suffocate his ex-girlfriend by rolling her up in a carpet in front of her kids. Seriously! WTF is wrong with this guy? What's wrong with the NFL and its' players that this kind of behavior is so prevalent? The kind of shit you hear about in movies like Pulp Fiction. This is the third domestic violence incident involving an NFL player that made the news this week. The NFL apparently has bigger problems than they want you to believe regarding their domestic violence policy.
